So for anyone who has been following the #Savita debate, you will probably have already heard about the incredibly biased Primetime report which aired on Tuesday 20th November.
If you haven’t seen the show, you can check it out here on the RTÉ Player.
If you would like to complain to RTÉ about the obvious bias shown towards the Anti Choice Side (I hate the term Pro Life) then you simply email firstname.lastname@example.org
More information about the process is available on the RTÉ website here.
The great new website Savitas Law has templates that people can use.
Here is my complaint:
I am writing to complain about the biased nature of the Primetime report on abortion which aired on Tuesday 20th November 2012.
As listed on your own website RTÉ is obliged under Section 39(1) of the Broadcasting Act 2009 to ensure that:
“the broadcast treatment of current affairs, including matters which are either of public controversy or the subject of current public debate, is fair to all interests concerned and that the broadcast matter is presented in an objective and impartial manner and without any expression of his or her own views, except that should it prove impracticable in relation to a single broadcast to apply this paragraph, two or more related broadcasts may be considered as a whole, if the broadcasts are transmitted within a reasonable period of each other.”
I do not believe that the abortion discussion on Primetime (20th Nov) was fair to all interests concerned as there was a very heavy bias toward the Pro-Life campaigners and speakers. There was a total absence of a Pro Choice voice from the in studio debate which is unacceptable. Of the 4 in studio speakers, 2 were independent medical experts, 1 was a Pro Life Adviser and 1 was a politician from a party that espouse a Pro Life Position. This sort of bias is not acceptable from the State Broadcaster on such a serious issue. In order to treat this discussion in an objective and impartial manner, I hope that RTÉ puts forward a speaker from the Pro Choice Campaign where it puts forward a speaker from the Pro Life Campaign in all future broadcasts.
I look forward to your response.”
