Consider the M.A. in Women’s Studies at UCC.
The M.A. in Women’s Studies has been offered in UCC since 1991/2. The M.A. is a full-time postgraduate course. The course explores feminist theories and practice in order to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Women’s Studies as a discipline. The distinctive characteristic of the course is its interdisciplinary approach. Lecturers are drawn from a variety of academic disciplines, e.g.: Literature, Philosophy, Sociology, Applied Social Studies, Folklore, Linguistics, Law, and History. The emphasis, however, is placed on achieving a conceptually and pedagogically integrated structure.
The focus of the M.A. programme is “Women and Society”. The course offers students a postgraduate training in feminist theory and research methodologies. It builds on an interdisciplinary approach to facilitate students in applying these theories and methodologies to analyses of women’s roles in social and cultural life.
Several Cork Feminista fans and members have completed this course and some have even gone on to do PhDs in Women’s Studies. If you’re interested in Women’s Studies, this could be the course for you!
